I figured that this comment to my previous post deserved a post all it’s own:

I saw your post and thought I’d try to explain our rationale behind the outage map. We had the same reaction you did when the subject was brought up years ago, that people without electricity wouldn’t have much use for it. However, we discovered in 2003 after the windstorm that people were calling those who still had Internet access to get updates that we had listed on the web. The media also used the web as a resource. Hope this helps and let us know if you have any questions.

You know what? Kudos for explaining the thought process to me. I applaud Mr. Thomas for stepping up and describing the reasoning behind it. Credit where credit is due…
